“The Romans Road”
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” KJV
As we are born into a fallen world, we invariably fall in line with the world from our youth. Every person has sinned in one way or another, God weighs all sin the same according to James 2:10; therefore all have come short of God’s standard for mankind.
Romans 5:12
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” KJV
By one man, Adam, sin came into the world. Adam was warned that in the day he committed his sin, death would come. Not only did this affect Adam, but all that follow him inherit sin through the blood line. As stated, we also compound on that sin with our own actions. Physical death now has power in this world due to sin.
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” KJV
Wages are an earned item, all who have sinned have earned death; God prepared a way for man to overcome sin and therefore death. This overcoming is not by man’s own power, but by the power of the gift God has given to the world – His only begotten son, Jesus the Christ. We cannot earn eternal life in heaven, it has to be gifted to man.
Revelation 20:14, 15
“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” KJV
When anyone believes in Jesus as Lord and Savior of his/her life, their name is written in THE Book of Life. Because God reveals Himself to people, people must make a choice to believe Him or not. Those that choose not to believe will not only experience the physical death; but, will also experience being placed in the lake of fire, which is eternal separation from God, who is life, and thus experience the second death in the spirit side of things. There is still consciousness; however, there is never a time of experiencing the presence of God for the rest eternity.
Romans 5:8
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” KJV
Even though the world is in a fallen state, and every person besides Jesus had sinned, God still loves every person in this world. He does not want a single one to experience the second death because of that love; so, while we are in the worst position we can be in, He gives His most perfect gift. Not when we get our lives in order and make restitution for our wrongs, or any other thing we attempt to do to make ourselves better people … but while we are at our worst, God loves us and gave His best gift.
Ephesians 2:8-10
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” KJV
It must be understood that we cannot redeem ourselves, we cannot do anything that will make up for our sins, we cannot save ourselves. It is by God’s grace alone that we are even given a chance to come to a redeemed state, and we receive this grace as a gift by having faith in the promise that Jesus is our redeemer, friend, Lord, and Savior. We also must accept that He has prepared a way for our lives to represent Him on this planet and must seek out what His good will in our lives directs us towards. His plan is always better than man’s plan.
Romans 10:9
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” KJV
Again, it is not up to our works to redeem us. God makes it very clear that our salvation is by Him; but, we must accept it. By confessing with our mouth that we believe in faith what God has done, we acknowledge these truths and accept our need for a savior. His gift, once received, instantly gives the believer eternal life and the promise of heaven.
“The Sinner’s Prayer”
There is no one prayer that has to be recited; in order to received the gift of God the prescription is clear, to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus lived, died, resurrected, and will return. To help form those thoughts and words, this is an outline of prayer to receive the gift of God and start your walk in a new life with Jesus Christ.
“Dear heavenly Father, I confess that I am a sinner; but, I believe you loved me regardless of that sin and sent Jesus to live the life I could not live, pay the debt I could never repay for those sins, and rise from the grave on the third day to conquer the hold of the grave and the power of death due to sin. I call upon the name of Jesus, asking for forgiveness of those sins, to be my Lord and Savior; and, I open my heart to receive Him so He can live in me, while I also live in Him. Thank you for hearing my prayer, for opening my understanding, and for creating in me a new life free from the binding of sins. Amen”
